May 14, 2013 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release
In a game that featured five lead changes, the York Revolution were edged by the Long Island Ducks 8-7 in front of 4,019 fans at Bethpage Ballpark on Tuesday evening. The Revs will look to bounce back on Wednesday with two games remaining on their road trip, before returning home to host the Lancaster Barnstormers on Friday night.
The Revs took an early lead, rallying with two outs in the second inning to go in front 1-0. Wilson Batista ripped a single to left-center to keep the inning alive, before Salvador Paniagua reached on an infield hit thanks to a misplayed popup by catcher Ralph Henriquez. Tyler Graham then drilled an RBI double to left for the game's first run, extending his hitting streak to six consecutive games, as he made his return to the lineup after missing five games due to injury.
Long Island took its first lead in the bottom of the third on a two-run double to right-center by Ray Navarrete, but the Revs answered right back in the fourth, scoring three times on RBI singles by Paniagua and Graham and a two-out RBI double by Andres Perez, taking a 4-2 lead.
The Ducks responded with three of their own in the home fourth, doing so on an RBI single to right by Gabe Suarez and a two-run triple to the right field corner from ninth hitter Dan Lyons, just beyond the reach of right fielder Jeff Fiorentino's diving attempt.
Down 5-4, the Revs scored three for the second consecutive inning in the fifth, taking advantage of errors by Long Island first baseman Murray Watts and second baseman P.J. Phillips, the second of which allowed the tying run to score. Paniagua then delivered an RBI single to right handing the lead back to York, and Graham picked up his third hit of the night on an RBI single to right, building a 7-5 advantage.
The Ducks had the final answer, however, with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Danny Perales led off with a single to right, and Phillips doubled to right-center plating Perales to make it a 7-6 game with no outs. Navarrete then singled up the middle to drive in the tying run, and with two outs, Henriquez, batting .137, struck a go-ahead RBI double to the gap in left-center.
Long Island's bullpen did not allow a hit after Graham's fifth inning single, with T.J. Hose (1-1) picking up the win by way of a scoreless seventh. Leo Rosales notched his fifth save with a perfect ninth.
Revs righty Stephen Penney (1-2) was tagged with the loss.
Both starters took no-decisions as Nick Green was denied a chance at a third straight win, going six innings and allowing five runs, four earned. Green finished strong, as the only batter to reach against him among his final nine hitters faced reached on an error.
Long Island starter Dontrelle Willis allowed nine hits and seven runs, but only two earned runs in 4.1 innings.
The bottom third of York's lineup went a combined 8-for-12 with five RBI, but Long Island pitching held York's third through sixth hitters without a hit in 17 at-bats.
The Revs fall to 1-8 in one-run games with the loss, and 1-7 in series openers.
Game time for Wednesday's contest is 6:35 p.m., with the Revs sending a starter yet to be announced to the hill against Long Island's John Brownell (1-2, 3.58). Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, YorkRevolution.com, and on the Shoutcast mobile phone app (YorkRevs) beginning at 6:15 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
