Barnstormers, DiNardo Stumble in Camden

May 14, 2013 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release

Any ideas of Lenny DiNardo throwing repeat no-hitters came to a quick end on Tuesday evening.

Yasser Gomez led off the bottom of the first with a single, the first of five consecutive hits as Camden rolled to a 9-1 victory over the Barnstormers Tuesday evening at Campbell's Field.

It was the second straight loss and 13th in the last 18th games for Lancaster.

Gomez laced a 1-2 pitch into left field for a leadoff single in the first. Paddy Matera followed with a single chopped over the head of third baseman Kody Kirkland, and Delwyn Young loaded the bases with a third straight single, just out of the reach of diving shortstop Olmo Rosario. Raul Padron stroked a single through the hole on the right side, and Johnny Drennen chased two more home for a 3-0 Riversharks lead. Eddy Perez' grounder to short produced a fourth run.

DiNardo (2-3) went on to retired six in a row, a brief respite before problems started again in the third.

By the time, he was lifted in favor of the bullpen, DiNardo had been reached for 11 hits and nine runs in 3 1/3 innings.

The game was the third matchup of the season between DiNardo and Josh Walter (2-2). Walter breezed through the rubber match. The right-hander yielded only six hits and an unearned run in eight innings of work. He allowed only one walk while striking out four.

Lancaster's only run came in the sixth. Daryle Ward reached when his one-out pop up was dropped by Juan Martinez. He went to second on a wild pitch and scored when Kevin Howard doubled into the left field corner.

The same two clubs meet again on Wednesday at 7:05. Lancaster will send right-hander Alan Johnson (1-1) to the mound against lefty Ryan Kulik (1-1). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; 1600-AM, WPDC; 1390wlan.com and the I Heart Radio cellphone app starting at 6:45.
