Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

WORCESTER, Mass. - Ryan Babineau hit a go-ahead two-run homer to cap a five-run eighth inning for the RailCats, who came back from four runs down to beat the Tornadoes 7-6 on Friday night. The 'Cats clubbed a season-high four home runs and it was their largest come-from-behind win of the year.

The RailCats trailed 6-2 going to the eighth, which was led off by Matt Forgatch, who crushed his second homer of the night to left field. Mike Massaro walked and Mike Coles singled. With one out Mike Rohde hit a sac fly to left to cut the deficit to 6-4. Brian Kolb followed with an RBI single, the RailCats first hit of the night with runners in scoring position. The next hitter, Babineau, crushed Nick Serino's offering over the left field wall for his first homer of the season to give the 'Cats a 7-6 lead. It was his second career home run and first since 2008 when he was playing for Arizona's short season affiliate.

Forgatch hit a leadoff homer in the first to give the RailCats a 1-0 lead. It was the RailCats first leadoff homer of the season and it was the first time that Adam Klein was not their leadoff hitter, as Klein sat out with illness. A number of RailCats are still battling a virus that has forced relief pitcher Nolan Nicholson to DH each of the last two nights.

Mike Massaro hit a leadoff homer in the fifth, his second of the year, to give the RailCats a 2-0 lead.

Worcester struck off of RailCats starter Tyler Deetjen on Tony Patane's two-run double in the fifth to tie the game at two. Deetejen allowed a pair of runs in 4 2/3 innings.

Alex Nunez hit a two-out double in the sixth to give the Tornadoes a 3-2 lead. Jerod Edmonson's two-run homer capped a three-run seventh for Worcester and gave them a 6-2 advantage before the RailCats rallied in the eighth.

Marco Gonzalez (2-1) gave up three runs in 1 1/3 and picked up the victory while Chris Allen threw 1 1/3 scoreless frames for his third save. It was just the RailCats second victory when trailing after seven innings this season (2-22).

Game three of the four game series will be Saturday night at 6:05 Central Time. Will Krout (0-3, 4.18) will be on the bump for the RailCats.
