Fishy Smell for Saints in 8-1 Loss to Goldeyes

St. Paul Saints News Release
WINNIPEG, MB - The first 50 games of the season didn't go as planned for the St. Paul Saints and, unfortunately, the second half of the 2012 season got off on the wrong foot as the Saints lost 8-1 to the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Shaw Park and have now lost three straight.
The Saints dug a huge hole after just two innings as starter Alberto Rolon struggled early on. Rolon led off the bottom of the first by walking Price Kendall. With one out he walked Jon Weber. Yurendell de Caster doubled to straight away center scoring Kendall to give the Goldeyes a 1-0 lead. Luis Alen's RBI ground out made it 2-0.
In the second the Goldeyes put up another crooked number. With Ridge Carpenter at second and Jose Duran at first and one out Kendall doubled home Carpenter to make it 3-0. With two outs Weber drilled a three-run homer to right, his fourth of the season, to make it 6-0. Rolon settled down after that, but it proved to be too little too late. Rolon went 6.0 innings allowing six runs on eight hits while walking four and striking out two.
The Saints couldn't do much against left-hander Todd Privett. In the first four innings they managed just one inning in which they put more than one runner on base. They were able to break through in the fifth when Adam Frost doubled with one out and Jose Hernandez singled him home. Both Frost and Hernandez finished 2-4.
Two streaks came to an end for the Saints. Jim Rapoport finished 0-2, before leaving the game in the fifth, ending his streak of reaching base in consecutive games at 31. Ole Sheldon finished 0-4 ending his career high 12 game hitting streak.
The same two teams meet in game three of the four game series on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. The Saints are TBA while the Goldeyes send LHP Chris Salamida (2-2, 3.99). The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB.
