Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

Ryan Babineau hit a walk-off RBI single in the 10th inning to give the RailCats a 3-2 win over Sioux Falls and sweep the series on Sunday. The RailCats (44-43) have won five in a row and are over .500 for the first time since they were 4-3 entering play on May 25. With 13 games to go, the 'Cats are just four and a half games back of Winnipeg in the wild card.

Mike Massaro led off the 10th with a single and moved to second on a groundout by Brian Kolb. With two out, Babineau shot a line drive into center field to score Massaro with the winning run.

The Pheasants loaded the bases with nobody out in the second inning against RailCats starter Will Krout. After retiring two batters in a row, Krout allowed a two-run bloop double to left by Joe Anthonsen that gave the Pheasants a 2-0 lead. Krout would hold Sioux Falls scoreless on just three more hits over the next six innings, as he had his seventh quality start of the season in a no-decision.

The 'Cats got on the board in the fourth inning on a sac fly by Chris Carrara. Mike Rohde hit a solo homer to right in the sixth, his fifth of the season, to tie the game at two. Pheasants starter Barry Fowler gave up two runs in six frames in a no-decision.

Marco Gonzalez (4-3) was perfect over the final two innings for the win, while Alan DeRatt (3-7) gave up the 10th inning run in the loss. The RailCats pitchers retired the final 11 Pheasants batters in order.

The RailCats have an off day on Monday and then will welcome the wild-card leading Winnipeg Goldeyes to town for a three-game series starting on Tuesday night at 7:05. Stephen Hiscock (4-5, 2.85) will pitch for the RailCats.
