Fargo-Moorhead 4, Rockland 0
Fargo-Moorhead finished off the sweep of Rockland as the RedHawks shutout the Boulders by the score of 4-0. Four Fargo-Moorhead pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout. The starter, Tyler Herron, went the first 7 1/3 innings allowing three hits and striking out nine batters. Herron picked up the win and improved his record to 10-3 on the season. The three relievers, Kyle Dahman, Joe Harris and Tom Boleska went the rest of the way and struck out two batters while giving up only a hit. Shortstop Zach Penprase led the RedHawks offense going 3-for-5 with a run scored and a RBI.
Grand Prairie 12, El Paso 11 (15 Innings - Completion of Suspended Game from August 17)
What a wild game in Grand Prairie, as the AirHogs, after falling behind by two runs in the top of the 15th inning, score three runs in the bottom of the frame to pull out a 12-11 victory over the El Paso Diablos in the completion of the suspended game from Friday. This game set several league records, including the longest extra inning game (5:32), the most runners left on base in a game by both teams (40) and by a single team (Grand Prairie with 23) and the most at-bats in a game (Grand Prairie with 63). There were a lot of offensive fireworks in this one as both teams combined to score 23 runs on 42 hits, with 11 of the hits being for extra bases. Grand Prairie RF Jonny Kaplan and CF Keanon Simon combined to go 5-for-13 at the plate with three doubles, five runs scored and a RBI. AirHogs 2B Jairo Perez had three hits and drove in two runs while 1B John Alonso scored a run and had three RBI. First baseman/DH Jermy Acey had a fabulous game in the loss for El Paso going 4-for-6 with a home run, two runs scored and four RBI.
El Paso 3, Grand Prairie 2 (Game 1 - 7 Innings)
After finishing up the suspended game from Friday, El Paso and Grand Prairie had a doubleheader to play. The Diablos, behind a good start from starting pitcher Luis Chirinos, defeated the AirHogs, 3-2 in game one. Chirinos threw a complete game allowing two earned on 10 hits with three strikeouts. With the victory, Chirinos is now 4-1 on the season. First baseman Fernando Valenzuela went 2-for-3 with two RBI to lead the El Paso offense.
St. Paul 5, Winnipeg 1
The St. Paul Saints completed a three-game sweep of the Winnipeg Goldeyes as they won Sunday afternoon, 5-1. First baseman Ole Sheldon led the St. Paul offense going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Five other Saints hitters collected a hit in the game including 2B Joe Spiers who went 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI. The St. Paul pitching staff was solid the whole weekend as they allowed only three runs in the series. Saints starter Robert Coe notched his 11th win of the season. Coe tossed 7 2/3 innings allowing an earned run on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Sioux City 11, Wichita 5
After falling behind 5-2 after two innings, the Sioux City Explorers scored nine runs over the next four innings to go ahead 11-5 and would go on to beat the Wichita Wingnuts by that same score. The 1-2-3 hitters of LF Brandon Newton, 3B Wally Backman and RF Peter Barrows led the Sioux City offense going a combined 6-for-14 at the plate with three RBI and six runs scored. Explorers DH Adrian Martinez chipped in with three hits while 1B Jorge Delgado launched his second home run of the season. Sioux City starting pitcher Richard Salazar won his seventh game of the season as he allowed five earned runs on nine hits.
Gary SouthShore 3, Sioux Falls 2 (10 Innings)
Catcher Ryan Babineau singled home CF Mike Massaro from second base in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Gary SouthShore RailCats a 3-2 walkoff win over the Sioux Falls Pheasants. Massaro finished the game with two hits and a run scored. Gary SouthShore reliever Marco Gonzalez notched the victory after tossing two shutout innings. Gonzalez is now 4-2 on the season. For Sioux Falls in defeat, 2B Joe Anthonsen had two hits and two RBI.
