Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

GARY, Ind. - Ryan Babineau's only hit on Sunday afternoon provided the heroics for the Gary SouthShore RailCats, who came from behind to beat the Sioux Falls Pheasants 3-2 in 10 innings.

Mike Massaro led off the 10th inning with a single, went to second on a groundout and came home two batters later on Babineau's liner to center field off Pheasants reliever Alan DeRatt (3-7). The Pheasants led early in the second inning on Joe Anthonsen's bloop double to left field that plated Cesar Nicolas and Cristian Guerrero.

The RailCats tied the game with on Chris Carrara's sacrifice fly in the fourth and Mike Rohde's solo home run in the sixth. The long ball that cleared the right field fence was just the fifth hit by the RailCats all season at the pitcher-friendly U.S. Steel Yard.

Sioux Falls was unable to capitalize on Barry Fowler's quality start. He tossed six innings, giving up just two runs on four hits. Despite walking five, he was able to strand five runners and struck out two.

Kyle Mertins pitched two scoreless innings in relief before yielding to DeRatt, who threw the final 1 2/3 innings.

Will Krout had a strong start for Gary SouthShore. He lasted eight innings, allowing just two runs on seven hits. Marco Gonzalez (4-2) pitched a perfect ninth and 10th innings for a win.

Anthonsen and Cory Morales each had a pair of hits for the Pheasants. Both Anthonsen and Trevor Lawhorn now have 404 career hits with Sioux Falls, 12 shy of Felix Pagan's club record of 416.

The Pheasants begin a four-game road series with the Lincoln Saltdogs at 6:35 p.m. on Monday, August 20 in Lincoln, Neb. The game will be broadcast on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230-AM KWSN and www.kwsn.com.
