Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - Three different B-Mets homered off Fisher Cats starter Joel Carreno en route to a 4-1 win at NYSEG Stadium today. The Binghamton win, their first at home, ended a five-game losing streak.
The Fisher Cats were the first on the board when three straight batters reached safely against B-Mets starter Robert Carson. Travis d'Arnaud stroked a one-out single to right field, Adam Calderone walked, and Mark Sobolewski knocked home d'Araud with a single to right.
Binghamton quickly returned volley in the bottom half of the frame. With the bases empty, Mike Fisher walloped a 0-1 offering from Carreno over the right field wall for his first homerun of the season. The strike tied the game at one.
It remained that way until the bottom of the fifth, when the B-Mets busted out the lumber off Carreno again. With a sharp wind blowing out to right field, Jordany Valdespin lifted a fly ball to deep right-center field. Aided by the wind, the ball carried over the fence and bounded back into play after striking a billboard beyond the wall. After initial confusion, the play was ruled a homerun and the Mets took a 2-1 lead.
Jesus Feliciano kept the rally going with a single and Josh Satin became the second B-Met to use the strong wind to his advantage. On the first pitch from Correno, the second baseman lifted a high fly ball to right field that entered the jet stream and squeaked over the right field fence for the B-Mets' third homerun of the day.
With the fresh lead, Carson gave way to Edgar Ramirez in the sixth inning. The tall right-hander worked around two-out singles in the sixth and seventh for two solid innings of relief. Roy Merritt tossed a scoreless eighth and John Lujan worked a perfect ninth to lock down his second save of the season and make a winner out of Carson.
The B-Mets (3-6) will be back in action tomorrow night to take on the Portland Sea Dogs for the first game of a three-game series. RHP Brandon Moore (0-0, 5.79) will start for the B-Mets and RHP Michael Lee (0-0, 2.45) will go for Portland.
