LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets struck out a season-high 14 times in a 5-2 loss to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats last night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Major League rehabber Brandon Morrow struck out six over 4.2 scoreless innings. Gonzalez Germen was tagged for five runs (three earned) on eight hits over 5.1 innings in his fourth-straight B-Mets loss. Allan Dykstra provided the only offense with a two-run homer in the sixth against eventual winner Michael Dubee. Marcus Stroman, Chorye Spoone and Sam Dysoneach chipped in with a scoreless and hitless inning of relief. Dyson collected his sixth save. Jeff Kaplan and Edgar Ramirez combined to throw 2.2 innings of shutout relief.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: LHP Darin Gorski (7-6, 4.03) makes his 21st start of the season and fourth against the Fisher Cats. Gorski earned the win in his last start against the New Britain Rock on August 8. He allowed two runs on four hits over six innings. Seven of Gorski's last ten starts have been quality ones. He has gone exactly six innings in eight of his last nine starts. In three starts versus the Fisher Cats, Gorski has gone 0-2 with an 11.68 ERA. In 12.1 innings, he has struck out 12, walked eight and allowed a .386 batting average.

RHP Deck McGuire (5-13, 6.17) takes the hill for the 25th time this season and fifth time against the B-Mets. McGuire allowed a season-high 12 hits in his last start against the Erie SeaWolves on August 9. The righty allowed six runs over five innings in the loss. McGuire has allowed eight hits or more seven times this season. In four starts versus Binghamton he has gone 1-3 with a 9.39 ERA. In 15.1 innings he has struck out seven, walked six and allowed a .283 batting average. McGuire was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 1st round as the 11th overall pick in the 2010 draft out of Georgia Tech.

...AND THE WHIFF: The B-Mets struck out 14 times last night, a season-high. Three players matched an individual B-Mets season-high by fanning three times each: Dustin Martin, Eric Campbell and Raul Reyes. It the highest number of strikeouts since the B-Mets whiffed 16 times against the Erie SeaWolves on August 29, 2011.

GOING DEEP: Allan Dykstra launched an opposite-field, two-run homer in the sixth inning last night. It was the first time he has gone deep since he hit a pair of homers against the New Britain Rock Cats on July 23, a span of 18 homer-less games.

WELCOME BACK: B-Mets reliever Edgar Ramirez was activated from the disabled list and immediately thrust into action last night, tossing a perfect eighth inning. Ramirez filled the spot left vacant when LHP Adam Kolarekwas sent down to St. Lucie (High-A). The B-Mets are using a seven-man bullpen. Every reliever is a righty.

BACK IN ACTION: Juan Lagares returned to the lineup last night after a five-game absence due to a tweaked ankle last week. Lagares led off the game with a double, his only hit of the night. In five games without Lagares, Binghamton hit .318 as a team.

AUGUST NUMBERS: The B-Mets have gone 7-7 in the month of August and hit .245 as a team, their lowest collective batting average in any month and fourth-lowest in the Eastern League.

STARTING TO HEAT UP: B-Mets catcher Francisco Pena went 2-for-2 last night a double to extend his hitting streak to a season-best four games. He raised his batting average 34 points to .209, the highest it has been since July 13.

THE WAY IT SHAKES OUT: With 20 games to play, the B-Mets sit seven games out of a playoff berth, trailing the New Britain Rock Cats and Reading Phillies. Binghamton has eight games remaining against teams above them in the standings.

NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets complete their stay in Manchester tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. RHP Greg Peavey takes on RHP Fernando Hernandez.
