New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, NH- Ryan Schimpf homered in the 7th, and Brian Van Kirk had a sac fly in the 4th, but the Fisher Cats fell to the Binghamton Mets 6-2 at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium Wednesday night.
Deck McGuire (L, 5-14), went the first 3.2 shutout innings, before a 2-run blast by Raul Reyes scored Jefry Marte, who had walked. Binghamton (60-63) would tack on two more in the inning, on back-to-back singles by Juan Centeno and Wilfredo Tovar, with Tovar's sending Centeno to third on a perfect hit-and-run. McGuire would throw a wild pitch to score Centeno, and Juan Lagares doubled to cap a 4-run inning. Binghamton would get their final runs in the 5th, as Matt Daly came in to replace McGuire, and Reyes did it again with two outs, this time hitting a 2-run single to right, scoring Allan Dykstra and Eric Campbell.
The Fisher Cats (49-74) had chances to tie or take a lead. Brian Van Kirk's sac fly in the 4th came with the bases loaded and one out, but Sean Ochinko would ground out to end the threat. In the 6th, the Fisher Cats would again load the bases with one out, and again Ochinko had the chance, but hit into an around-the-horn double play on the first pitch.
Darin Gorski (W, 8-6) was terrific through 7.0 innings, allowing 2 runs (1 earned), with 6 strikeouts. The lefty tossed 60 strikes among his 97 pitches.
Brad Glenn was the only other Fisher Cat to get multiple hits, with a pair of singles.
