Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Rockford Aviators put up five runs in their first three at-bats and used a solid pitching performance to knock off the Traverse City Beach Bums 6-1 on Saturday night at Wuerfel Park.
Rockford jumped on Scott Vachon early in the ballgame, loading the bases with nobody out in the first inning. After a popout, Kenny Bryant laced a two-run single to left to give the Aviators a 2-0 lead. Vachon escaped further damage with back-to-back groundouts.
Traverse City got a run back in the bottom of the second on a wild pitch, scoring Jose Vargas to cut the lead 2-1.
However, the Aviators responded in a big way in the top of the third with a three-run, opposite-field homer from Brian Bistagne that just evaded the glove of Greg Harisis to put Rockford up 5-1. The score stayed that way until the sixth inning when Dusty Robinson singled in Michael Hur to provide the Aviators with a five-run cushion.
Meanwhile, Kyle Brueggemann, the reigning Frontier League Pitcher of the Week, kept Traverse City at bay throughout his outing. The Beach Bums only got one runner past first base after the second inning as Brueggemann (6-8) picked up his fourth straight win. He went seven frames, allowing a run on five hits with seven strikeouts.
Vachon (2-4) took the loss for Traverse City, allowing five runs on 10 hits in just five innings.
The Beach Bums will finish up the home portion of the 2014 schedule on Sunday evening at 5:05 p.m. Tanner Tripp (3-8, 4.55) will start for TC against Rockford's Kyle Hassna (2-3, 2.92). It will be Fan Appreciation Day at Wuerfel Park with special jerseys being auctioned off during the game in addition to discounted kids tickets, postgame kids run the bases, postgame autographs and poster giveaway. Fans can listen to the broadcast starting at 4:45 p.m. on Classic Rock the Bear 98.1/107.1 and classicrockthebear.com.
