
Washington Wild Things Advance to the Playoffs with 11-4 Victory

Sauget, IL - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, captured a playoff berth for the seventh time in the team's 13-year history with a convincing victory over the Gateway Grizzlies Saturday night at GCS Ballpark.
Washington, who apparently came to the park determined to secure their spot in post-season play, got to work immediately. In the first inning after Danny Poma and Garret Rau both singled and Scott Kalamar walked to load the bases for Carter Bell who blasted a Grand Slam setting the tone for the evening.
Washington increased their lead in the third inning when Jose Dore drove in Kalamar and Bell. Later in the inning Austin Wobrock doubled and plated Dore and Jim Vahalik, giving Washington an eight run advantage.
The runs continued cross the plate for Washington. In he fourth inning Bell's sacrifice fly drove in Rau. And in the fifth inning Ryan Kresky doubled to score Vahalik and Kresky scored on an error.
The Grizzlies were able to muster one run each in the third, the sixth, the seventh, and the eighth innings.
Matt Sergey, coming off the first perfect game in Frontier League history, got the win for Washington, allowing only two runs on five hits with four walks five strikeouts.
Washington will advance to the playoffs for the first time since 2007.
Gateway and Washington meet again Sunday when first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. EDT . Airtime on WJPA 95.3 FM is 6:55 p.m . The Wild Things return to CONSOL Energy Park to face the Evansville Otters starting Tuesday night. Tickets are available at the CONSOL Energy Park Box Office.
