Austin Spurs News Release
AUSTIN, Texas - The Austin Spurs, presented by SWBC, will host back-to-back theme nights for their games at Cedar Park Center on March 17 and 18. The team will celebrate St. Patrick's Day on Thursday, March 17, when they face the Rio Grande Valley Vipers at 7:30 p.m. and dedicate Friday, March 18, to Colon Cancer Awareness, recognizing the Kiel Colon Cancer Foundation when they take on the Reno Bighorns at 7:30 p.m.
Austin is encouraging all fans to wear green to Thursday's game on St. Patrick's Day. Those who participate will be able to take advantage of a special BOGO ticket offer that they can receive at the box office by showing up in their green apparel. Fans who get creative in showing their St. Patrick's Day spirit will be able to take part in a costume contest during the game.
In honor of National Colon Cancer Awareness Month, Austin has partnered with the Kiel Colon Cancer Foundation for Friday's game. Fans are encouraged to wear dark blue, the color that represents Colon Cancer Awareness, and the team will wear blue laces for the game to show support. Fans will have the opportunity to win the same blue laces that the team is wearing, along with Kick & Roll T-shirts, courtesy of the Kiel Colon Cancer Foundation.
Created upon the death of founder George Kiel III's mother, Debra, the Kiel Colon Cancer Foundation's goal is to address colon cancer on multiple fronts through education, public outreach, research and aggressive initiatives. The nonprofit's main purpose is to encourage screening for the second-leading cause of cancer deaths in both men and women.
In addition, Austin will host a canned food drive benefitting Capital Area Food Bank of Texas at their home games on March 17, 18 and 20. Fans who donate a canned food item at the arena will receive a free ticket to that night's game. For Friday's game, fans can also enjoy Fantastic Friday with $3 soda, $3 beer and $4 wine courtesy of 96.3 RnB.
