Cleveland Charge News Release

The Canton Charge (26-15), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, fell to the Sioux Falls Skyforce (32-8), 121-117, to snap an eight-game home winning streak on Friday night. The Skyforce hold a 3-1 lead in the season series with the home team taking all four matchups.

Sioux Falls raced out to a double-digit lead for much of the first thanks in part to 12 assists on 16-of-23 shooting (70%) as a team led by Jarnell Stokes' 11 points. The Charge turned the ball over eight times for 10 points in the first and the visitors held a 37-23 advantage after the opening 12 minutes.

Canton cut into the deficit in the second using the long ball, as they hit 6-of-12 three-point attempts as a team with C.J. Wilcox going 3-for-3. Trailing 60-47 with 3:02 left in the first half, the Charge went on a 10-2 run with four different players scoring to pull within 62-57 at intermission.

The Skyforce led for the entire duration of the third quarter, fending off the Charge 12 times when they came within one possession of taking the lead. A Mike Stockton three-point play gave Canton a 92-91 lead early in the fourth, their first since the 6:32 mark of the opening quarter when the score was 7-6. Sioux Falls immediately responded with an 11-2 run to pull back ahead 102-94 and 5:51 to play.

The Charge bounced back with a 10-5 run to pull within three at 107-104, but the Skyforce responded by extending possessions with offensive rebounds for second chance points and maintained an advantage. Canton had a chance to tie the game down 120-117 and 12.7 seconds left when Wilcox had an open three-pointer miss the mark.

Wilcox led all scorers with 24 points and five boards in 39 minutes for Canton. John Holland netted a season-high 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting with two steals in 37 minutes. Nick Minnerath scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds off the bench, while fellow reserve Stockton added 15 points and two steals. Lamar Patterson scored 16 points with four boards, and three assists in 24 minutes.

Rodney McGruder paced Sioux Falls with 20 points, eight rebounds, and two steals in 48 minutes. Greg Whittington finished with a double-double of 19 points and 14 boards with three steals in 39 minutes. Stokes scored 17 points and swatted two blocks in 24 minutes.
