Westchester Knicks Stomp out Mad Ants
March 11, 2016 - NBA G League (G League)
Westchester Knicks News Release
FT. WAYNE - The Westchester Knicks (24-18), the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, will return home with a win after defeating the Ft. Wayne Mad Ants (18-23), the Indiana Pacers' affiliate, by a score of 106-99.
The Mad Ants controlled the majority of the first quarter, using an 8-0 run to run up a seven-point advantage over the Knicks. But Westchester chipped away with a 12-4 run of their own in the final three minutes, tying it up to finish the quarter 24-24.
The teams went shot-for-shot in the second, both hitting 10-of-22 field goal attempts. The Mad Ants fared slightly better from the arc though, hitting four from downtown to the Knicks' three, giving Ft. Wayne a three-point advantage at the end of the first half.
Both teams struggled in the third, as back-and-forth action gave way to three lead changes. The Mad Ants, shooting a dismal 25 percent, got some help in six Knicks turnovers for seven points while capitalizing on all eight of their free throw attempts. Though Westchester shot just under 50 percent in the quarter, the visitors continued to trail heading into the final quarter.
Westchester used a 6-0 run to start the fourth, tying it up three times within just over a minute to finally take the lead with 8:41 on the clock. The Knicks would hold onto the lead for the remainder of the game, though the Mad Ants managed to sneak within one from a three-pointer from forward CJ Fair. A Thanasis Antetokounmpo dunk followed by a parade of free throws sealed the deal for Westchester, who came away with a 106-99 win.
Jimmer Fredette paced Westchester with 21 points, going 2-for-3 from the arc with four assists and two steals. Thanasis Antetokounmpo was a force at the boards, grabbing a new career-high 15 rebounds to go with 11 points and two blocked shots. Darion Atkins also recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Jordan Bachynski and Jordon Crawford each finished with 17 points. On assignment from the New York Knicks, Cleanthony Early had seven rebounds and two assists in 14 minutes of play.
Walter Lemon Jr. finished with a game-high 22 points to go with seven rebounds. Rakeem Christmas collected a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Shayne Whittington came close with 10 points and nine rebounds.
The Westchester Knicks take a short break before hitting the road again next week for another two-game series. Westchester will begin in Michigan on Wednesday, March 16 at 7:00 p.m. ET, facing the Grand Rapids Drive, the Detroit Pistons' affiliate. The game will be broadcast live on MSG Network and on the NBA Development League's YouTube channel.
