CHARLESTON, SC -- The Augusta Greenjackets collected 10 hits, including three from shortstop Marcus Sanders, and stopped the Charleston RiverDogs, 4-2, Sunday to earn a split in the four-game series that opened the season for both South Atlantic League clubs.

In the process, the Greenjackets (2-2) held the RiverDogs to only three hits for the third straight game, including holding their hosts hitless over the last seven innings.

Augusta took an early 1-0 lead in the opening frame when Jason Columbus doubled to right field and scored Sanders, who got on base on a fielder's choice.

But the RiverDogs (2-2) answered with a pair of two-out scores in the bottom of the first when Marcos Vechionacci doubled to left and Cody Ehlers followed with a double to right center, scoring Vechoinacci. DH Yosvany Almario reached on a fielding error by Augusta's Lisandro Disla, scoring Ehlers. That would be the end of the scoring for Charleston.

Augusta took the lead for good in the fifth inning when Sanders opened the frame with a single to left center, and Brian Horwitz and Columbus followed with back-to-back run-scoring doubles off starter Jeff Marquez.

The Greenjackets added another run in the seventh when Sanders, who opened the inning with a single, stole second and third bases, and then scored on a passed ball.

Greenjackets pitcher Anthony Moreno earned the victory, pitching 2.1 innings and striking out three RiverDogs in relief of starter Osiris Matos. Marquez suffered the loss, going four full innings and allowing eight hits, three runs, while striking out four and walking two.

For the season's opening series, the RiverDogs fanned 39 Greenjackets while drawing 15,423 fans for the four-game set. Charleston now hosts the Columbus Catfish for a three-game series beginning Monday at 7:05 p.m.
