Kannapolis, NC – Heading into the seventh inning, the Intimidator offense had not moved a runner past first base, but in the seventh frame the Kannapolis offense came alive scoring eight runs on eight hits to take an 8-4 win over Asheville. The victory earned the I's a split of their four-game opening series with the Tourists. Kannapolis won the first game 4-0. Asheville took games two and three 5-0 and 3-1.

Jose De Los Santos led off the seventh with a double. Then Javier Castillo homered to left pulling the Intimidators within two at 4-2. Then Francisco Hernandez singled chasing left-handed starter Jake Postlewait who had pitched six shut out innings allowing just two hits. George Delgado came on in relief and promptly allowed Adam Ricks to reach on an error. Then Chris Kelly doubled Rick and Hernandez home to tie the game at four. From there, Kannapolis piled on four more runs on RBI doubles by David Cook, Sean Smith, and De Los Santos.

Adam Russell got the start for Kannapolis. The big right hander had a one-hitter going through three before giving up a run in the fourth and two in the fifth. Jeff Little came on in relief in the sixth giving up another run before shutting down the Tourist bats in the top of the seventh. Little got the win (1-0). Delgado took the loss (0-1).

Asheville returns home to start a three game series with Hickory. Meanwhile the I's stay home to host Greensboro for a three-game set. The opener Monday night will feature Kannapolis right hander Lucas Harrell against Greensboro righty Tim Wood. The game starts at 7:05 pm and can be heard at www.intimidatorsbaseball.com.
