Savannah, GA – Savannah's Edgardo Baez smacked a two-run homer off RHP Chris Malone to spark a three run fifth inning and give the Sand Gnats a 4-1 win over the Catfish. Malone relieved Javy Guerra who pitched 4 innings, giving up one earned run on three hits and striking out six batters.

The Catfish scored their only run in the top half of the first inning when Jamie Hoffmann walked, stole second and scored on a Blake DeWitt RBI single. In the bottom half of the first, Savannah's Ian Desmond greeted Guerra with a leadoff homer to tie the game at one.

Malone, making his professional debut, relieved Guerra, pitching the fifth and sixth innings. He struck out the first batter he faced and then allowed the next five Sand Gnats to reach base. Wesley Wright and Brian Akin closed out the game by pitching a scoreless seventh and eighth inning respectively.

Tomorrow the Catfish travel to Charleston, SC to begin a three game series against the RiverDogs (Yankees). Dodgers' 2004 second round pick RHP Blake Johnson will make his first start of the 2005 season. The game can be heard on WDAK 540 in Columbus.

Their first regular season contest at Golden Park is scheduled for April 14th versus the Rome Braves at 6pm. The night will conclude with a post-game Fireworks display.
