CHARLESTON, SC -- Augusta pounded out 11 hits and took advantage of three Charleston errors as the Greenjackets won their first game of the season, an 8-2 victory over the RiverDogs in front of 4,894 fans at Joseph P. Riley Jr., Park Saturday night.

The RiverDogs (2-1) took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning when Cody Ehlers drew a walk and then scored on Estee Harris' two-run home run over the right field fence.

The Greenjackets (1-2) quickly responded with three runs in the top of the third inning and added four more in the fourth.

In Augusta's three-run third inning, Jon Armitage and Brad Vericker each singled, and when Jason Columbus singled to right, RiverDogs' right fielder Jonathan Poterson booted the ball for an error. Poterson relayed the ball to second baseman Ryan Haag, who threw the ball into the Augusta dugout scoring Columbus and giving the Greenjackets a 3-2 lead.

In the Augusta four-run fourth, a fielding error by shortstop Marcus Vechionacci and a passed ball, combined with three hits, gave the Greenjackets a comfortable 7-2 lead.

Four Greenjackets -- Marcus Sanders, Brian Horwitz, Vericker and Lisandro Disla -- collected two hits apiece. Ben Jones, Jordan DeVoir and Harris accounted for the only three RiverDogs' hits on the night.

Oscar Montero, in relief of Augusta starter Craig Whitaker, earned the victory for his 2.1 innings of work and five strikeouts. The Greenjackets' staff combined to strike out 15 RiverDogs in the game. Charleston starter Christian Garcia suffered his first loss of the season.

The RiverDogs pitching staff, although allowing 11 hits, struck out 10 Greenjackets and walked eight. The staff has accumulated 32 strikeouts in its first three games.

The two teams will meet Sunday afternoon at 4:05 for the final game of the four-game series.
