The Corn Crib - Normal, IL
Game #74 - Road Game #35 (34-39), (18-16)

Last time out...
The Florence Freedom dropped a 2-0 decision to the Normal CornBelters at the Corn Crib on Tuesday. Florence starter Chuck Weaver (5-4) was the hard luck loser, tossing seven innings and allowing only two runs. Weaver walked none and fanned six for the Freedom. Normal scored its only two runs of the game in the bottom half of the first. Mark Micowski singled and moved to third on a single by Santiago Chirino. Chirino promptly stole second to put himself in scoring position. Aaron Dudley lined a single into center that drove in Micowski and Chirino. Normal led 2-0 after one inning. Florence squandered its chances at the plate, grounding into three double plays and stranding eight men on base. Florence had runners on in seven of the nine innings but failed to convert. All eight of the Freedom's hits were singles. Austin Delmotte was called upon out of the bullpen. The rookie tossed a scoreless eighth inning while striking out one.
For Starters...
Jeremy Gooding makes his 11th start of the year tonight for the Freedom. He is coming off a no-decision against the CornBelters on August 5, going six shutout innings, allowing only one hit, walking three and striking out three as the Freedom lost 1-0 in 10 innings. In Gooding's three losses this season the Freedom have scored a combined one run. The 24 year old went to school at Madonna University in Michigan. He made his professional debut in 2014 with the Fort Worth Cats of the United League. He also pitched with Amarillo of the American Association in 2014 and compiled a record of 2-2 with a 1.62 ERA in 8 starts between the two organizations. He struck out 56 batters in 55.2 innings and tossed two complete games with one shutout.

The Freedom have dropped two straight games and need a win tonight to avoid their first three-game losing streak since July 30-August 1 when they dropped three straight to the Crushers and Wild Things.
