Marion, Ill. (August 11, 2015) - The Southern Illinois Miners were down 2-0 after seven innings against the Lake Erie Crushers on Tuesday night at Rent One Park, but rallied for three runs in their final two turns at-bat, with Ryan DiMascio keying the rally with a pinch-hit walk in the eighth and a walk-off single up the middle in the ninth to win it for the Miners 3-2 and keep the team in first place.

Adam Lopez started for Southern Illinois but surrendered two runs in the first two innings on a two-out single by Anderson Hidalgo in the first and an RBI double by Emmanuel Quiles in the second, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead. Lopez had to leave the game in the third with lower back tightness, but the Miners' bullpen held the line the rest of the way, with Ryan Brockett and Shane Street combining to allow just one hit and two walks in five and two-thirds innings with seven combined strikeouts to keep the Miners in the game.

Southern Illinois could not muster up any runs against Crushers starter Hunter Adkins, who pitched the first seven innings and shut out the Miners on just four hits and three walks, striking out six in the game. But they started their comeback against reliever Mike Devine in the eighth. Toby DeMello led off with a single and DiMascio, playing in his first game back with the club in over a month, was called on to pinch-hit. He drew a walk to force Lake Erie to go back to the bullpen, and would eventually score the tying run in the game.

Against all-star closer Trevor Longfellow (5-6), Aaron Gates pulled back a bunt before slashing a double just inside the left field line, scoring DeMello to make it 2-1 and move DiMascio to third. After a popout and a walk loaded the bases, reigning Frontier League Player of the Week Michael Earley hit a sacrifice fly into center field to score DiMascio and tie the game at 2-2.

After Evan Mott (2-3) pitched a scoreless ninth, Steve Marino led off against Longfellow by drawing a walk and new Miner Craig Massey sacrificed him to second. After a lineout by DeMello for the second out, DiMascio hit a single into center field to win the game for the Miners.

Southern Illinois will now go for their tenth straight series win on Wednesday night in game two against the Crushers at 7:05 p.m., with Brandon Cowan starting against Lake Erie's Brad Duffy.
