MARION, Ill. -- The Lake Erie Crushers held a 2-0 lead for most of Tuesday night against the Southern Illinois Miners, but saw that lead slip away, as they allowed three runs in the final two innings in a 3-2 loss at Rent One Park.

The loss for the Crushers (31-41) drops their record to 10-11 in one-run games this season ,while the win for the Miners (48-25) was their fourth in their last five games.

In the loss, the Crushers wasted an incredible pitching performance from Hunter Adkins. He tossed seven scoreless innings and allowed just four hits while fanning six, but didn't factor into the decision.

Things started well for the Crushers, as they scored runs in the first two innings of the game off Southern Illinois starter Adam Lopez, who entered the game with a 10-0 record, and the Miners were 13-0 in games he started.

Lake Erie scored their first run with two outs in the top of the first. Jose Barraza kept the inning alive with a two out double down the left field line, and scored moments later on Anderson Hidalgo's RBI single to center.

Juan Sanchez led off the second with a single to left field, before stealing second base. He came home two batters later on a RBI double to left center off the bat of Emmanuel Quiles, but the Crushers were held to just three more hits the rest of the way.

They knocked Lopez out of the game in the third, before the Miners' bullpen took over, and shut the Lake Erie offense down over the final 5.2 innings.

Southern Illinois scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game. Toby DeMello started the inning with a single, before Ryan DiMascio walked. Aaron Gates followed with a RBI double down the line in left to score DeMello, and DiMascio came home to score the game tying run on Michael Earley's sacrifice fly.

Steve Marino started the bottom of the ninth with a walk, before Craig Massey moved him to second on a sacrifice bunt. DeMello lined out to short, and with two outs, DiMascio shot a single to center, which scored Marino from second to end the game.

Evan Mott (2-3) tossed a scoreless ninth inning to score the victory for the Miners, while Trevor Longfellow (5-6) allowed a run on two hits through 1.2 innings of relief and took the loss.

Eight out of the starting nine reached safely for the Crushers, but Sanchez was the only Crusher to hit safely more than once, going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and reached three times on the night.

The Crushers will continue their three game series with the Southern Illinois Miners at Rent One Park on Wednesday night. Right-hander Brad Duffy (6-3, 3.10) will start for the Crushers and lefty Brandon Cowan (1-1, 2.98) will start for the Miners. The first pitch is scheduled for 8:05 PM.
