March 3, 2019 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Owen Sound Attack finished off their northern swing this afternoon against the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, visiting the GFL Memorial Gardens to take on the Greyhounds. The Greyhounds came into this afternoon's matchup having lost two games in a row, while the Attack were losers on Friday in Sudbury, but had their best offensive output of the season the night before against North Bay. One team would return to winning ways and Alan Letang and the Attack were ready to work for it.

Maksim Sushko came out of the gates firing, having an early chance on a breakaway but Matthew Villalta turned it away. The Greyhounds had the first power play of the game and seemed poised to score first until Carter Robertson broke up a play at center ice, got the puck to Cade Robinson who made a nifty between the legs pass and Jackson Doherty finished it off for his 5th of the season and a 1-0 lead. It wouldn't hold however, and Keegan Howdeshell scored his 42nd of the season on the powerplay and the teams would head to the locker room tied at 1 apiece.

The Greyhounds would get a shorthanded goal of their own to begin the 2nd period, when Jordan Sambrook came in on a breakaway to give Sault Ste. Marie a 2-1 lead. Just a few minutes later, after a lengthy review by officials, the Greyhounds doubled their lead and made it 3-1. The Hounds had a chance to put it away with a penalty shot awarded to Sambrook, but Guzda turned it away and kept the Attack in the game. Behind Guzda's play in net, the Attack started to push back and took control of the game after losing the lead. It wasn't until late in the period that they finally struck, with Aidan Dudas feeding Sergey Popov for his 8th of the season and cutting the lead to 1 with less than a minute to go in the 2nd. The Attack would head to the third trailing by one but with momentum on their side.

Heading into the final period, both teams tightened up significantly and scoring chances were at a premium. As a potential first round playoff preview, the teams looked to gain familiarity with each other as they battled in the third. Unfortunately for the Attack, it was the Greyhounds that would get the first marker, adding to their lead and making it a 4-2 game on Howdeshell's second of the game. With 2:30 remaining in the game, Letang made the call to pull Guzda and get an extra attacker on the ice for Owen Sound. It paid off, with Kaleb Pearson scoring his 12th of the season to pull the Attack within one. Unfortunately, they couldn't find the tying goal and would fall to the Greyhounds 4-3. The final shots on goal were 29-25 in favour of Owen Sound.

The Home Hatten Building Centre Hardest Working Player of the Game was Cade Robinson. The Mac Taylor Corporation three stars of the game were swept by the Greyhounds, with Howdeshell, Sambrook and Frost taking the honours.

The Owen Sound Attack will be back in action Wednesday night as they continue their road trip and will meet the Firebirds in Flint. Puck drop at 7:00 p.m.
