Ottawa 67's News Release

OTTAWA - The Ottawa 67's are Eastern Conference champions after shutting out the Mississauga Steelheads 3-0 at home on Sunday afternoon.

Led by a 22-save shutout from Mikey DiPietro and the 100th point of the season for Tye Felhaber, the 67's officially clinched home ice advantage through the Eastern Final. Felhaber's goal, his 56th of the season to give Ottawa 2-0 lead early in the third period, was also his 100th goal as a 67.

Kody Clark, with his 16th of the year, scored what would stand as the winner six minutes into the second period. Graeme Clarke, with his 20th, added an empty net goal with just over a minute remaining.

This marks the first time the 67's have won the East title since the 2002-2003 season when they finished with 98 points.

With seven games left in the regular season, the 67's need 10 points beat the previous franchise record of 104 set in the 1996-1997 season.

What they're saying

Andre Tourigny, 67's Head Coach

"I think that when we look at our team and the way we're built, we have a vision of how we want to play and today's game is exactly how we want to play. We played extremely fast with and without the puck, our counter attack was extremely quick, our support to the puck carrier was there, we battled extremely hard down low to create possession. I'm really proud of the way we battled in the game." On Felhaber reaching 100 points... "I'm happy for him because he's played really well lately in all areas. For him to get rewarded like that was important and it's good for him."

Tye Felhaber, 67's forward

On a big couple of days for him (NHL contract, 100 points).... "It's nice, it's finally all coming together. With the whole team here that we have, it's hard not to have success for yourself. It feels good. It's something I've been working my whole life for and my family has sacrificed a lot of time for me to accomplish this and I'm just trying to soak it all in."

Game notes

Marco Rossi, who had an assist on Sunday, led the team with six shots. Tye Felhaber was a close second with five.

With his 100th point today, Tye Felhaber is the first 67's player to do so since Tyler Toffoli in 2012-2013.

Mikey DiPietro's shutout was his third of the season and second since joining the 67's in December.

With his 97th OHL career win today, DiPietro now ties Cory Campbell for the seventh in wins for a goalie in OHL history.

Sasha Chmelevski was brilliant from the faceoff dot today, finishing the game with 14 faceoff wins out of 15.
