Kitchener, ON: It was another rendition of the Highway 7 rivalry at The Aud as the Guelph Storm (36-16-6-4) beat the Rangers (30-28-3-1) 8-4.

Joseph Garreffa and Justin MacPherson each had a goal and an assist, and Donovan Sebrango had two assists in the loss.

It was one goal on one shot to start the game for the Guelph Storm on Sunday afternoon when Nate Schnarr beat Luke Richardson on a tipped a shot by Dimitri Somorukov to score his 29th of the season and give the visitors an early 1-0 lead.

Schnarr struck again for the Storm at 11:35 when a shot from Nick Suzuki produced a rebound right to Schnarr who slid it past Richardson to make it 2-0.

At 14:32, Guelph extended their lead when a shot from just in front of the blueline by Markus Phillips found its way past the Rangers screened goaltender and it was 3-0.

Suzuki and Schnarr earned assists on the Phillips goal and that gave the two of them three points in the game before the end of the first period.

With the period winding down and the Rangers breaking into the Storm's end, Joseph Garreffa picked up the puck after it rebounded off a Guelph player and singlehandedly beat Anthony Popovich for his 27th goal of the season to make it 3-1 going into the first intermission.

Guelph outshot Kitchener 18-9 through 20 minutes of play.

The Storm restored their three-goal lead at 2:57 of the second period when Nick Suzuki scored his 31st of the season. 4-1.

Reid Valade and Cole Cameron took successive penalties just 41-seconds apart that gave the Storm a 5-on-3 advantage.

On the ensuing powerplay, Nick Suzuki scored his second of the game, unassisted, to make it 5-1 at 8:51.

At 9:32, Nate Schnarr scored his hat trick goal on Richardson, which prompted the Rangers coaches to replace Richardson with Lucas Pfeil.

The Storm didn't stop there. Pinned deep in their own zone, a turnover by the Rangers led to a 3-on-1 break the other way which was finished by Ty Collins to make it 7-1.

Shortly after, at 13:37, Alexey Toropchenko scored his 17th on an assist by Liam Hawel and it was 8-1.

At 15:35, Garreffa and Donovan Sebrango assisted on a Justin MacPherson goal in-close on Popovich and the defenseman scored his fourth of the season to make it 8-2.

The Storm continued to outshoot the Rangers through two periods, 36-16.

Greg Meireles got on the scoreboard just 3:03 into the 3rd period. Sebrango carried the puck out of the Rangers defensive end before passing it to Mike Petizian, who found Meireles on the left side. Meireles backhanded it short-side on Popovich and the puck snuck past the Storm goaltender to make it 8-3.

At 17:36, during some 4-on-4 action, Rickard Hugg sniped home his 31st of the season off passes from MacPherson and Vukojevic and that cut Guelph's lead in half, 8-4.

That's as close as Kitchener would get, however.

The Storm outshot the Rangers 47-35.

The Rangers next home game is on Friday, March 8 at 7:30 pm vs the Erie Otters. The next road game for Kitchener is on Wednesday, March 6 at 7:00 pm versus the Hamilton Bulldogs.
