Prosvetov Records Fourth Career Shutout in Win over Petes

Saginaw, MI - The Saginaw Spirit extended their points streak to seven games following Sunday's 8-0 win over the Peterborough Petes.

2018 Arizona Coyotes goaltending prospect Ivan Prosvetov made 27 saves for his fourth career shutout with the Spirit.

The former 2018 CHL Import Draft first-rounder, who's second in the Ontario Hockey League in wins at 33, improves his goals-against average (GAA) and save percentage (SAV%) to 3.01 and 0.907, respectively.

Saginaw still commands a two-point lead over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds for first place in the OHL West Division.

After 13:38 of scoreless play in the opening period, the Spirit struck first from second-year forward Jake Goldowski's 13th of the season, as well as second in back-to-back games.

Goldowski's poke through inside the crease was the fourth rebound attempt by Saginaw once D.J. Busdeker sent the puck down from the left circle. NHL prospects Blade Jenkins and Damien Giroux were credited with the assists.

The Spirit went to intermission leading 2-0 on a Brady Gilmour shorthanded goal at 16:02.

Peterborough had 55 seconds left on the power play when Gilmour successfully finished off the breakaway alongside second-year forward Nicholas Porco.

Gilmour, drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in 2017, went over the left pad of goaltender Tye Austin when switching to his backhand for six goals in the past month.

Saginaw endured 3:10 of penalty kill time in the first after allowing none Saturday to the Kingston Frontenacs.

Fresh off the Spirit returning to full strength a minute into the second frame saw former 2017 Florida Panthers first-round (10th overall) pick Owen Tippett tie Cole Coskey and rookie Cole Perfetti for a team-high 31st goal.

Tippett received the feed inside Peterborough's zone from Perfetti, who passed it between his legs at 1:17, to extend his points streak to seven games.

Perfetti was named OHL Rookie of the Month for February this past Friday after rounding out the month with 21 points on 10 goals and 11 assists.

The 2018 OHL Priority Selection fifth overall pick later made it 4-0 with 9:09 left on a wrist shot in the slot past two Peterborough defenders.

Austin allowed two more goals before the second intermission to Gilmour and rookie Ethan Cardwell.

It's the first multi-goal outing for Gilmour since September 29 and now passes Chicago Blackhawks forward Brandon Saad for 20th all-time in franchise history in points with 134.

Cardwell is coming off his two-goal and first-star performance against Kingston in just his third game played at The Dow this season.

The 16-year-old from Courtice, Ontario, sent the one-timer through the open net before Austin could extend his stick. Jenkins, the 2018 New York Islanders fifth-rounder, finished the night with three assists.

Goaltender Hunter Jones came in relief for Peterborough to begin the third period as Austin stopped 15 shots through 40 minutes.

The Petes would be awarded the first 5-on-3 opportunity of the game at 4:26 but could not capitalize with both Damien Giroux and Mason Millman in the box.

Saginaw, yielding the OHL's third-best man-down unit, then scored again less than two minutes from its fourth killed penalty.

Overage winger Albert Michnac's 19th goal of the season and third in three straight games bounced off the chest of Peterborough defenseman Matt McNamara and trickled into the netting.

The Spirit have registered five goals or more in the last seven games.

Bode Wilde, who assisted off the Michnac goal, topped off the night with his 10th point since February 21.

Coming down the Peterborough zone with Jenkins, his future Islanders teammate, Wilde fired his shot to the top left corner at 19:39 to now sit in second among all OHL blueliners in total points (67) and goals (19) this season.

Shots on goal favored Saginaw, 35-27.

The Spirit begin a three-game road trip Friday when they visit the Guelph Storm at the Sleeman Centre. It'll be the final of a four-game regular-season series between Saginaw and second-place OHL Midwest Division Storm.

Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (EST).

The Spirit lost the previous meeting in Guelph on January 30, 8-2, after winning in a shootout at the Dow nearly three months prior.

2017 Coyotes third-rounder Nate Schnarr is four points shy from reaching triple digits on 31 goals and 65 assists. In the 23 games since being traded from the Owen Sound Attack this season, 2017 Vegas Golden Knights first-rounder Nick Suzuki has recorded 10 goals and 31 assists for 41 points.
