Attack Add Three in U18 Draft

April 8, 2020 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) - Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Owen Sound Attack made three picks in today's U18 priority selection, adding a defenseman, goaltender and forward to the organization.

The Attack's first round selection was used on defenseman Anthony Bax from the Oakville Rangers. The 2003 born blueliner scored 5 goals and added 20 assists in 32 games this season for his midget club. Bax was excited to be picked by Owen Sound, saying: "I'm excited to get drafted by your organization. I was hoping to go to Owen Sound over anywhere else."

Attack Director of Player Development Sean LaFortune says: "Bax really developed after moving to Oakville. He's a competitive, two way defender that impacts the game in a lot of different areas. We think he really has a chance to come into camp and earn his spot on the team."

With the 30th overall pick in the draft, Owen Sound opted for goaltender Benjamin Bates out of the Kitchener Jr. Rangers program. Bates played in 20 games this past season and posted a 2.53 GAA in the regular season before stepping up in the playoffs, playing three games with a 1.96 GAA. LaFortune says: "Bates is a tall positional goaltender, very square and competes well. He flew under the radar last year and stepped up his game this year in Kitchener."

After taking a goaltender in the second round, Owen Sound received an additional selection in the 3rd. With the 49th overall pick, Owen Sound took Huron Perth Lakers Captain Chet Hudson. The left winger scored 17 times and added 15 assists in 35 games this season for his club. LaFortune says: "Hudson has a good work ethic, a lot of great skills. We envision him as a guy that can come in and provide secondary scoring. He really improved his skating over the course of the year."

The Owen Sound Attack welcome our three new players and their families to the organization and look forward to seeing them at training camp this August.
