Lexington Legends News Release

A two-run inside-the-park home run and a passed ball on which two runs scored helped the Asheville Tourists come from behind to beat the Lexington Legends 6-4 in Asheville Thursday night. The Tourists, who are close to clinching the Southern Division second half title, took two of three in the series.

Lexington held a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Jordan Pacheco singled and went to second on a wild pitch. Kiel Roling struck out, but Michael Zuanich doubled, scoring Pacheco to cut the lead to one. David Christensen then hit a fly ball to deep center field. Center fielder Jay Austin had the ball in his glove, but collided with the wall, and the ball fell to the ground. Austin, shaken up by the collision, could not retrieve it, and by the time left fielder Eric Suttle did, both Delta Cleary, who had run for Zuanich, and Christensen had scored to give Asheville a 4-3 lead.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Carlos Martinez walked and Scott Robinson doubled to put runners at second and third. Jimmy Cesario reached on an error charged to first baseman Brian Pellegrini, loading the bases. Arcenio Leon replaced Michael Hacker on the mound for Lexington. Leon struck out Pacheco the league's Most Valuable Player, for the second out, and also got strike three past Roling, the league's leading hitter. But on the last strike to Roling, the ball got past catcher Reinaldo Pestana for a passed ball, and two runs scored as Pestana could not locate the ball behind him.

In the ninth inning, Lexington had scored once and had two on with two out when Albert Cartwright hit a long fly ball down the left field line and over the wall, but it was ruled foul. Lexington manager Tom Lawless was ejected for arguing the call. Cartwright struck out to end the game.
