Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
SALISBURY, MD - A successful debut for newcomer Korey Noles as he makes his first start and pitches very well in a win for the Lakewood BlueClaws against the Delmarva Shorebirds by the score of 8-2. The BlueClaws broke out with their bats on the cool September night in Maryland.
Noles (1-0), a recent call-up from Williamsport, pitched into the seventh as he shined in his first outing with the BlueClaws. He worked 6.2 innings, allowing just one run on three hits and struck out seven. Noles fed the Shorebirds (29-34) a steady diet of off-speed pitches and kept them off balance through the duration of his start.
The BlueClaws (33-31) gave Noles a lead before he even stepped on the mound at Purdue Stadium as they grabbed two runs in the first inning. Korby Mintken walked before back to back doubles by Travis d'Arnaud and Jim Murphy plated two. Both runs scored on the double my Murphy.
The BlueClaws then led 2-1 in the fourth and used back-to-back-to-back hits by Jeremy Hamilton, Travis Mattair and Troy Hanzawa to take a 4-1 lead. Both runs came in to score on the double by Hanzawa.
The BlueClaws added single runs in the seventh and in the ninth to boost their run total to six and they did so on twelve hits.
Ryan O'Shea (8-8) started and struggled against the BlueClaws as he lasted five innings and allowed four runs on seven hits.
The BlueClaws have scored eight runs now twice since July 24th.
The BlueClaws and the Shorebirds continue their five-game series on Friday at 7:05 pm. The BlueClaws will send Matthew Way (3-1) to the mound in his final regular season start before starting game one of the playoffs and he will be opposed by Oliver Drake (8-8).
