Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, NC - The Intimidators wrapped up a postseason berth on Thursday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium, taking a dramatic 4-3 win over the West Virginia Power.
Luis Sierra hit a solo home run off of Diego Moreno in the bottom of eighth to break a 3-3 deadlock and give Kannapolis the winning run they needed. The long ball was only the fourth hit of the game for the Intimidators, but it was enough to send Kannapolis to the postseason for the first time since they won the championship in 2005.
Dan Remenowsky got the final three outs, including a Danny Bomback groundout to second to wrap up the win and the second half title. It was the 24th save of the season for the All-Star closer.
Joe Serafin struggled through one rough inning, but finished strong. The southpaw gave up three runs on five hits in the third inning, but did not allow another baserunner in his final four innings on the slab. Serafin struck out six and walked one in seven innings pitched.
Eduardo Escobar ensured that Serafin would not be on the hook for the loss, driving in a pair with a single in the bottom of the seventh off of Moreno (1-3). The shortstop had two of the Intimidators four hits.
Kyle Bellamy (2-0) took the victory, striking out all three batters he faced in the eighth.
The Intimidators will face the Lakewood BlueClaws (Philadelphia Phillies) in the opening round of the playoffs starting Wednesday, September 9 at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. Tickets for the contest are available now online at IntimidatorsBaseball.com, over the phone at (704) 932-3267 or in-person at the Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium ticket office.
