Wenatchee AppleSox News Release
Final Regular Season Games In Wenatchee
Familiar Foe Back In Town For A Decisive Series
The AppleSox are prepared to welcome their third opponent of this home stand in what could determine the final playoff seeds. By the time the series is over the AppleSox and HarbourCats will have played each other 9 times this season, 6 in Wenatchee and 3 in Victoria. There is no other pairing in the WCL that clashes as often as Victoria and Wenatchee. The last time Victoria was in town, 7/2-7/4, the AppleSox made quick work of the fresh faced HarbourCats by dispatching them in a 3-game sweep. At the time Victoria was the hottest team in the league, and had held down 1st place in the North since Opening Day. The sweep bounced the Canadians from the top shelf, and only recently have the HarbourCats been able to slow their decent. However, the last meeting between the clubs didn't turn out to be so fortunate for the Wenatchee 9. Victoria snatched 2 of 3 from Wenatchee just before the All-Star break.
The upcoming series with Victoria and Wenatchee holds major playoff implications. The HarbourCats could come into game 1 as close as 3 games removed from a playoff spot. Making things even more interesting is the fact that Victoria will play their final 3 games of the season with Bellingham who currently sit 1 game off the pace. While many people have already counted out the HarbourCats there certainly appears to be a great deal of fight left in the expansion team.
Last Shot At History For Barr
Portland's Star Going For Doubles Record
Ryan Barr (Portland) has been chasing WCL history for the past couple of weeks and will have 3 more games to set the league doubles record. Barr currently has 18 doubles on the season which is good for a share of the record set by Tyler Christian of Bend in 2011. The Pilot's slugger has already eclipsed the AppleSox team record of 14 set by Zach Mandelblatt in 2007. Even if Barr is able to set the record it looks like he might have to add a few more doubles for insurance as his teammate Connor Spencer (UCI) is the league's second best doubles hitter with 13. Since Barr will be done with the AppleSox after the home series with Victoria, Connor Spencer will have 3 more games in Kelowna to try and match Barr or possibly even pass him.
The Once & Future Game
Makeup Game With Walla Walla Slated 8/12
On August 1, 2013, the scheduled game between the Walla Walla Sweets and Wenatchee AppleSox was unable to be played due to unplayable field conditions at the time of the game. Heavy rain in the hours leading up to the series finale left large amounts of water on Paul Thomas Sr. Field.
Because the game could have potential postseason implications, an "if necessary" makeup game has been scheduled. The game would be played in Wenatchee at Paul Thomas Sr. Field on August 12th at 7:05pm. If playing the game would have no effect upon the final outcome of playoff participation or seeding, the game will not be played.
There will be no presale tickets for this contest. Tickets will be for sale on the day of the game at Paul Thomas Sr. Field. Any ticketholders from the rained out game on August 1st can exchange their unused tickets for the makeup game, or any other AppleSox home game for the remainder of the 2013 season including playoffs. Gates will open at 6:05pm.
