Annual Dean Patterson Curve Classic On Tap For This Weekend

ALTOONA - Eight high school baseball programs from throughout Central and Western Pennsylvania will participate in the Fifth Annual Dean Patterson Curve Classic this Friday through Sunday at Blair County Ballpark in Altoona.

Highlighting the eight-team field are the champions of each of the first four tournaments, Altoona (2003, 06), Huntingdon (2004) and Hollidaysburg (2005). The field will be rounded out by return participants Central (Martinsburg) and four schools who will be making their first appearances in the Dean Patterson Curve Classic, Brookville, Central Cambria, Indiana and Punxsutawney.

The DPCC will be played over three consecutive days with all quarterfinal, semifinal and championship round action being contested at Blair County Ballpark, the home of the Curve, the Double-A Eastern League affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Quarterfinal round games will be played on Friday the 27th with the winners advancing to the semifinal round on Saturday the 28th. The champion of the 2007 Dean Patterson Curve Classic will be crowned on Sunday the 29th at 1 PM. A consolation round, which will be played on Saturday, guarantees each participating school at least two games in the tournament.

Friday, April 27 (First Round)

Central vs. Central Cambria, 10 AM

Altoona vs. Huntingdon, 12:30 PM

Indiana vs. Brookville, 3 PM

Punxsutawney vs. Hollidaysburg, 5:30 PM

Saturday, April 28 (Consolation Games & Semifinals)

Central/Central Cambria loser vs. Altoona/Huntingdon loser, 10 AM

Indiana/Brookville loser vs. Punxsy/Hollidaysburg loser, 12:30 PM

Central/Central Cambria Winner vs. Altoona/Huntingdon Winner, 3 PM

Indiana/Brookville Winner vs. Punxsy/Hollidaysburg Winner, 5:30 PM

Sunday, April 29 (Championship Game)

Saturday Semifinal Winners, 1 PM

Dean Patterson Chevrolet Cadillac once again returns as the title sponsor of the Curve Classic, continuing its tremendous support of youth athletics in the region. In addition to the Dean Patterson Curve Classic, the dealership has title sponsorship of the Dean Patterson Little World Series, the Dean Patterson Great Chevy Shootout and the Dean Patterson Little Stanley Cup.

For the fifth consecutive year, admission and parking to the tournament games at Blair County Ballpark will be free of charge. Donations will be accepted for both the Dean Patterson Curve Classic Scholarship Fund and the Dean Patterson Athletic Fund.

The seven games of the Dean Patterson Curve Classic won't be the only important high school baseball action contested at Blair County Ballpark throughout the spring. The ballpark will also play host to both the PIAA District 6 Baseball Championships May 30-31 and the PIAA State Baseball Championships June 15-16.
