Cannon's walkoff HR lifts Fisher Cats to 13-inning win over Mets, 5-4

Manchester, NH - Chip Cannon stroked a walk-off home run off the videoboard in right-centerfield, giving the New Hampshire Fisher Cats a 5-4, 13-inning victory over the Binghamton Mets Thursday afternoon at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.

New Hampshire (11-5) erased a 4-1 deficit in the bottom of the ninth inning to force extra innings. Facing Mets' reliever Brandon Nall, Robinson Diaz singled to center and scored on Cannon's RBI double into the right field corner. Sergio Santos then lifted a game-tying, two-run home run -his Eastern League-leading fifth of the season- off Binghamton closer Carlos Muniz into the upper deck of the Poultry Products Dinner in the Den.

Santos went 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, two runs and two RBI. During the eight-game homestand, Santos batted .467 (14-30) with five home runs, eight doubles and 11 RBI.

Lee Gronkiewicz (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings of relief, allowing one hit and recording four strikeouts for his first win, as New Hampshire swept the four-game series from Binghamton (3-11).

Six Fisher Cats' pitchers combined to strike out a franchise record 17 Mets' batters, as New Hampshire made it five consecutive victories.

The Fisher Cats start a three-game series against the Portland Sea Dogs, Double-A Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, Friday night at Hadlock Field. Left-hander Ricky Romero (0-0, 5.06) will pitch against Sea Dogs' right-hander Matt Goodson (0-0, 6.14). Radio coverage begins at 5:40pm with Mike Murphy and Tom Gauthier on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network (610-AM, Manchester; 930-AM, Rochester; 1540-AM, Exeter).

The Fisher Cats return to Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Friday, May 4 to open a three-game series against the Bowie Baysox.
