Angels Assign Figueroa to Salt Lake, Sutton Activated

SALT LAKE CITY (July 7, 2010) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced today that the club has signed infielder Luis Figueroa to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Salt Lake. The Bees also announced that infielder Nate Sutton has been activated from the Disabled List and infielders Carlos Colmenares and Darwin Perez have been reassigned to Double-A Arkansas.

Figueroa, 36, signed with the Angels on July 6 as a free agent and is expected to join Salt Lake for tonight's game at Spring Mobile Ballpark. Prior to signing with the Angels, he appeared in 62 games for Triple-A Las Vegas this season, hitting .326 with 15 doubles and 35 RBI. Figueroa spent the 2009 season in the Angels organization, hitting .241 with 15 RBI in 34 games with the Bees while sidelined for most of the season with a broken left fibula. The Bayamon, Puerto Rico native originally signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates as a free agent in 2007.

Sutton, 27, was placed on the Disabled List on June 26 with a lower back strain. In 62 games for the Bees in 2010, he hit .278 with 12 doubles, four triples, two home runs, 20 RBI and 10 stolen bases. The Santa Cruz, Calif. native was originally selected by the Angels in the 24th round of the 2004 draft.

Colmenares, 24, has appeared in 25 games for the Bees in 2010, hitting .302 with two doubles and eight RBI. In 36 games for Arkansas this season, he hit .246 with three doubles, five RBI and five stolen bases. He has also appeared in seven games for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga in 2010, hitting .321 with two doubles and eight RBI. The Maracay, Venezuela native originally signed with the Angels as a free agent in 2004.

Perez, 20, has appeared in 11 games for the Bees in 2010, hitting .179 with six RBI. In 64 games with Rancho Cucamonga this season, he owns a .269 average with four doubles, seven triples, 16 RBI and nine stolen bases. The Maracay, Venezuela native signed with the Angels as a free agent in 2005.
