Andrew Martens Named to All-CHL Team

WICHITA, KS- Wichita Thunder defenseman Andrew Martens has been named to the 2011 All-CHL Team.

The six-man squad was voted on by the league's Head Coaches, Public Relations Departments, and select members of the media.

Martens opens the week tied for second among blue liners with 52 points, and tied for third with 14 goals. Martens has skated in 61 of the Thunder's 62 games and has compiled a plus/minus rating of +6. The Alberta native has now scored at least 30 points in five consecutive seasons.

On February 5th at Fort Wayne, the 29-year old Martens became the first defenseman to score four goals in a game since the CHL's merger with the WPHL. Martens has strung together three point streaks this season of at least five games.

The rest of the 2011 All-CHL Team includes defenseman Darcy Campbell (Rio Grande Valley), forwards Riley Nelson (Colorado), Sebastien Thinel (Odessa), and Chad Woollard (Texas), and goaltender Rob Nolan (Missouri).

Martens is the first Thunder player to make the All-CHL Team since Travis Clayton and Paul Esdale were both named in 2005.

Martens is also a finalist for the CHL's Most Outstanding Defenseman award, which will be announced later this week.
