
Anderson's Late Basket Gives Vipers First Season-Series Victory Against Austin

HIDALGO, TEXAS - Antonio Anderson hit a lay-up with 1.8 seconds left and then altered the trajectory of Curtis Jerrells' last-second three-point attempt to give the Rio Grande Valley Vipers a 114-112 victory over the Austin Toros tonight at Dodge Arena in front of a crowd of 4,173.
The Vipers (9-3) are now 4-1 against the Toros (7-6) with two games left, giving the Vipers the regular season series for the first time in franchise history.
Lewis Clinch hit a three-pointer with 39.5 seconds lift to bring the Toros within one at 112-111. 18.6 seconds later, Anderson turned the ball over to give the Toros a chance to win the game with the shot clock off. Anderson fouled Alonzo Gee with 11 seconds left, but Gee only hit the first attempt to tie the game.
Anderson finished with a team-high 27 points, five assists and four steals.
The Vipers, who are now 6-0 at home, are now winners of three-straight while the Toros' are losers of two-straight.
The Vipers jumped out to a 39-21 lead with 32 seconds left in the first quarter thanks in part to 15 points by Garrett Temple, but the Toros outscored the Vipers 26-9 over the next 6:38 to get with three points at 48-47.
Will Conroy made his Vipers debut with 2:48 left in the second quarter, picking up his first assist with 1:21 left in the quarter on a dunk by Houston Rockets-assignee Joey Dorsey that made it 58-54 Vipers.
Jerrells hit a pair of free throws and then hit a long two-pointer with 32 seconds left in the first half to tie the game 58-58.
Jerrells finished with a game-high 35 points and nine assists.
Gee gave Austin their first lead of the game 12 seconds in to third quarter after a layup as Austin built a 66-62 lead. Conroy hit his first bucket as a Viper with 9:51 left in the third quarter to spark a 10-0 run as the Vipers took the lead back at 72-66 two minutes and 18 seconds later.
The Toros came back, however, and Lewis Clinch hit a three-pointer to give the Toros a 79-76 lead with 4:28 left in the third quarter. Temple hit a fade-away jumper at the 2:24 mark to tie the game 80-80 and Craig Winder hit a pair of free throws 24 seconds later to tie the game 82-82 before the Toros took an 87-84 lead at the end of the quarter.
Anderson hit a three-point to give the Vipers a with 8:58 left to spark an 8-2 run as the Vipers took a 102-96 lead at the 6:37 mark.
The Vipers conclude kick-off a five-game road trip in Los Angeles with a 2:00 p.m. game against the D-Fenders at STAPLES Center on Sunday.
