Strong Fourth Quarter Helps Skyforce Defeat Wizards

SIOUX FALLS, S.D., Dec. 30 - The Sioux Falls Skyforce defeated the Dakota Wizards 114-97 on Wednesday night after outscoring their rivals 30-14 in the fourth quarter. A 19-4 run by the home team broke open a close contest as Sioux Falls won their sixth game in their last seven outings.

After trailing 8-7 in the early stages of the game the Skyforce went on a 24-8 run to take a 15-point lead (31-16) with a minute remaining in the opening quarter. Dakota cut the lead to 31-21 after the first quarter and after an even second quarter the Wizards still trailed by 10 points (62-52) heading into the locker room.

Dakota fought back to take the lead with just over five minutes remaining in the third quarter following a 3-pointer from David Bell, his third of the quarter. Michael Joiner knocked down a 3-pointer with just over two minutes to go in the third to give the Skyforce a lead they would not relinquish.

Joiner scored a season-high 25 points including a perfect 3-for-3 from downtown. Greg Stiemsa nearly posted a second straight triple-double as he finished with 15 points, 14 rebounds and seven blocks.

Bell scored 21 points behind a season-high four 3-pointers. Curtis Withers continued his solid play against the Skyforce as he finished the night with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Romel Beck posted 17 points and dished out five assists in defeat.

The archrivals tangle again tomorrow night in Bismarck at 7 p.m. CT.
