Clinton LumberKings News Release
Clinton, IA - Six days ago in Wisconsin, LumberKings right-hander Matt Anderson breezed through five no-hit innings against the Timber Rattlers only to see it all come crashing down in the sixth. In the blink of an eye, he saw his 3-0 lead turn into a 4-3 deficit after two home runs. Thursday night at Ashford University Field was different as Anderson threw six shut out frames against the Beloit Snappers in a 6-1 LumberKings win.
Anderson scattered three hits and struck out a career-high six as he improved to 2-3 on the season. Reliever Grady Wood tossed two scoreless frames of his own before handing over to Richard White who closed out the win.
Brock Hebert got things rolling for Clinton in the third inning with a base hit, the first of five to reach in the inning against Beloit's Michael Ynoa. Tim Lopes followed Hebert's single with one of his own and Dario Pizzano reached on third baseman Chad Lewis' error.
With the bases loaded and nobody out, Guillermo Pimentel hit a soft liner to right that John Wooten couldn't come up with. Hebert scored and everybody moved up 90 feet. Ynoa then hit Patrick Kivlehan to force in another run. A passed ball plated the third run of the inning and Gaby Guerrero's RBI groundout made it 4-0.
In the sixth, Guerrero and Jordy Lara executed a double steal of second and home. With two outs, Guerrero broke early from first and got into an intentional rundown allowing Lara to slide into home ahead of the throw to make it 5-0. Hebert made it 6-0 with a run-scoring base hit to score Guerrero.
The win put Clinton above the .500 mark for the first time since April 6 when they were 2-1. The team travels to Peoria for a four-game series with the Chiefs set to begin Friday night. The LumberKings send left-hander Scott DeCecco (3-3, 2.77) to the mound against Chiefs' right-hander Tyrell Jenkins (2-2, 4.75). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM CT at Dozer Park.
