Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Fort Wayne, IN - Patrick Leonard's safety squeeze bunt scored Tommy Coyle to cap an improbable rally on Thursday night at Parkview Field as the Bowling Green Hot Rods (25-13) stunned the Fort Wayne TinCaps (23-15) in a 7-6 win. The Hot Rods trailed 6-0 in the seventh inning and scored the game's final seven runs to come from behind. Marty Gantt started the scoring with a seventh-inning, two-run double, and Coyle tied the score with a two-run triple in the eighth.
The TinCaps dominated the early portion of the game, scoring two runs in the first, one in the second, and three runs in third. The Hot Rods committed two big errors that contributed to four unearned runs scoring against Hot Rods starter Dylan Floro. TinCaps starter Justin Hancock dominated the Hot Rods bats in his six innings, not allowing a run to stretch the Hot Rods scoreless innings streak to 18 innings.
Tyler Goeddel and Luke Maile both reached to begin the seventh inning to start the Hot Rods seven-run rally over the next two innings. After a Coyle fielder's choice groundout, Gantt doubled into the left-centerfield gap to plate two runs. The Hot Rods then made it 6-3 when Leonardo Reginatto drove home Gantt with two outs on a single to right field. Reginatto came in to score the fourth run of the inning when Rodney Daal's throw at first sailed wide after a Granden Goetzman strikeout.
Jordan Harrison spun his third straight scoreless relief inning in the bottom of the seventh to set up another Hot Rods rally in the eighth. Joey Rickard and Tyler Goeddel both walked to begin the frame. Then, with one out, Coyle tripled into the right field gap to tie the score at 6-6. After a Gantt walk, Leonard dropped down a safety squeeze bunt to score Coyle from third base to give the Hot Rods their first lead since Tuesday.
Matt Ramsey entered and set down all six men that he faced over the final two frames to complete the stunning comeback.
The seven-game road trip continues Friday at Fifth Third Ballpark as the Hot Rods start a four-game series with the West Michigan Whitecaps (Tigers) at 5:35 PM CDT. Getting the start for the Hot Rods is LHP Sean Bierman (2-1, 1.80), while the Whitecaps will counter with RHP Charlie Gillies (0-1, 2.08). The Forever Communications Pregame Show with Hank Fuerst will begin at 5:05 PM CDT. Tune in to the game on 1340 WBGN-AM and 1340wbgn.com.
