Lansing Wins Rubber Game 6-2

Lake County Captains News Release


(Eastlake, OH) - Kellen Sweeney homered down the right field line in the eighth inning to add an insurance run for Lansing. The Lugnuts defeated the Captains by a final of 6-2 on Thursday Night in Eastlake. The Lugnuts won the series from the Captains.

Lansing scored a run in the second inning. Kevin Patterson doubled and moved to third on a fielder's choice. Patterson scored on a throwing error by Eric Haase. It was 1-0 Lugnuts.

Lansing added four runs in the top of the fourth inning. The big hit in the inning was a two run single by Dwight Smith Jr. Aaron Munoz also knocked in a run on a sacrifice fly and another Captains error allowed a run to score. The Lugnuts were up a handful; it was 5-0 Lansing going to the fifth inning.

The Captains scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Claudio Bautista and Jorge Martinez singled to begin the inning. Bautista went to third on the Martinez single and scored on a ground out from Levon Washington. Dorssys Paulino doubled home Martinez and the score was 5-2 Lansing.

Dylan Baker (1-3) started for the Captains. Baker got the loss. Baker twirled four and one third innings, he allowed four hits, five runs, and four runs were earned. Baker walked six and struck out four. Jack Wagoner relieved Baker and pitched a perfect 1 & 2/3 Innings. Josh Martin entered in the seventh. Martin pitched two innings and allowed one hit and one earned run. The hit was the solo homerun to Kellen Sweeney. Louis Head pitched a scoreless ninth for the Captains.

Lansing sent Taylor Cole (2-2) to the mound. Cole got the win. Cole pitched six innings, and allowed three hits, two earned runs, and two walks. Cole fanned three. The Lugnuts bullpen pitched three scoreless innings to put the ballgame away.

Friday's game will be followed by Fireworks Friday Night, presented by Universal Windows Direct.

The Captains Friday Night Concert Series continues as Wild Horses will entertain the crowd with a concert following the fireworks show. Wild Horses is best known for the 1980 hit 'Funky Poodle" which was also featured in the film "You, Me and Dupree". They will perform on stage adjacent to Castaways Bar, which will remain open throughout the show. The Captains will feature iconic local bands following every Friday night home game for the remainder of the season.

Lake County will start RHP Luis Dejesus (0-3, 6.30) and Fort Wayne will counter with RHP Zach Eflin (1-3, 4.94). The first game of the series will begin at 6:30 PM.
