Beloit Sky Carp News Release
CLINTON, IA - Matt Anderson reeled off six scoreless innings for the Clinton LumberKings as they rolled past the Beloit Snappers 6-1 in Midwest League action on Thursday night at Ashford University Field.
Beloit's record slides to 21-18 in 2013. Clinton completes the series having taken three out of four and they find themselves at 20-19.
Anderson (2-3) was on his game all night and the Snappers lineup was unable to get anything off him. He retired the lineup in order the first time through and, when two men did get on to start the fourth, induced consecutive lineouts, the second of which resulted in a double play. Beloit managed only three hits against him and Anderson didn't walk a batter while striking out six.
The LumberKings had no such problems putting runs on the board. They loaded the bases in the third on two singles and an error and Guillermo Pimentel lined the inning's third single into right for an RBI. A hit batsman, a passed ball and a groundout all brought in single runs in the frame to put Clinton up 4-0 and knock out starter Michael Ynoa (0-1). The lead grew to 6-0 in the sixth, as the LumberKings pulled off a double steal, with Jody Lara stealing home, and a run-scoring single by Brock Hebert (2-3, RBI, run) tacked on the second run.
After Anderson's departure, Grady Wood was given the responsibility of holding the lead. Wood threw two scoreless innings during which he gave up just a single hit without handing out any free passes and totaling two Ks. Richard White pitched the ninth and let in a run on a Matt Olson (1-4, RBI) double, but no more as Chad Lewis flied to right for the game's final out.
After finishing four games in Clinton, the Snappers will head off to play four more in Quad Cities. They will face LHP Brian Holmes (3-2, 3.54 ERA) in the first game and counter with RHP Seth Streich (3-2, 7.63 ERA). The game has a scheduled first pitch time of 7:05pm.
