Fresno Grizzlies News Release

FRESNO, Calif. - For the second straight night, the Grizzlies bullpen lost the game in late innings as catcher Chad Moeller's RBI single in the 8th inning gave the Sounds a 5-4 victory Friday night at Grizzlies Stadium.

The Grizzlies trailed 3-2 in the sixth inning until Fresno center fielder Clay Timpner took Chris Demaria's pitch over the right field fence for a two-run homer to give Fresno a 4-3. The blast was Timpner's first homer this season with the Grizzlies.

Fresno's lead was short-lived though when Laynce Nix took Michael Tejera's offering deep for a solo home run to tie the game at four in the 7th inning. With the game tied at four, reliever Carlos Hines came in and allowed a hit to Vinny Rottino with one out. Dave Krynzel's groundout moved Rottino to second and then scored on Moeller's single to hand Hines his third straight loss and second is as many games.

Demaria (4-0) picked up the win for the Sounds while Alec Zumwalt recorded his 12th save, pitching two scoreless innings including striking out the side in the bottom of the 9th to close the game out.

Patrick Misch started for the Grizzlies and went six innings, allowing three runs on 10 hits while striking out batters in a no-decision for him. Nashville starter Jared Fernandez also took a no-decision after allowing two runs in five innings of work.

Timpner finished 1-for-4 with the two-run homer that gave the Grizzlies a brief lead while Juan Melo and Tomas De La Rosa each went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

The Grizzlies and Sounds finish their season series for 2006 Saturday night at Grizzlies Stadium with RHP Brian Cooper taking the mound for Fresno opposite LHP Zach Jackson of Nashville.
