Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)... After going 65 full minutes without one goal scored in regulation, the Rochester Americans eventually came up short in the shootout, falling 1-0 to the Manitoba Moose in the first of back-to-back home tilts against their division rivals at The Blue Cross Arena. Rochester has now lost two of their last three games and falls to 26-27-3-3 on the season.
Rochester's netminder, Tyler Plante, made 32 saves and stopped two of the four shootout attempts to earn second star accolades, collecting his first shutout of the campaign in the process.
Manitoba's winning goalie, Eddie Lack posted 28 stops, and denied four of the five shootout attempts by the Amerks to pick up his fourth shutout of the season.
Both teams remained scoreless throughout the time of regulation, with the Amerks trailing the Moose in shots, 32-23.
The game was forced into a shootout after both teams fell short of a goal in the overtime period.
Manitoba winger Sergei Shirokov visited the red light district first, when he faked to his left, and put it over the glove of Plante.
Rochester's Michal Repik quickly responded as he beat Lack to even the skills competition at one apiece.
After the two teams exchanged goals, the Moose's Garth Murray scored what proved to be the game-winner before Lack denied Rochester's Hugh Jessiman in the final attempt to preserve the one-goal advantage for the Moose. The same two teams meet again on Friday, February 25th to complete the two-game set. Faceoff is slated for 7:35 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena. The first 3,000 fans will take home a Ted Nolan bobblehead and will have the opportunity to receive an autograph from the former NHL Coach of the Year as part of the final installment of the Amerks Legends Series Night, courtesy of the Seneca Gaming Corporation. Nolan will be signing autographs in the upper atrium prior to the game from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. Fans can tune in for all the live action on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk.
