Allen Americans News Release

Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans win a battle for the top spot in the Berry Conference, downing the Wichita Thunder 5-3 Thursday night at the Allen Event Center.

The Allen Americans came into Thursday night's contest one point ahead of the second place Thunder in the battle for the Berry Conference crown. Wichita raced out to a 2-0 first period lead on a pair of goals from Matt Robinson, his 7th and 8th of the season. The Thunder led 2-0 after the first period, outshooting Allen 16 to 11.

In the second, the Americans would get on the board as Jason Deitsch netted his second goal in as many games, to get the Americans to within one at 2-1. Bruce Graham and Keith Johnson drew the assists for the Americans. Thirty-four seconds later, Dominic D'Amour tied it with his first goal in an Americans sweater, Jarret Lukin picking up the lone assist. Allen would grab a brief lead with a little over three minutes left in the second, when Nick Layton beat Wichita netminder Ryan MacDonald with a quick shot from the slot to make it 3-2. The Thunder responded eighteen seconds later with a blast from Justin Sawyer from the high-slot, to even the score once again at 3-3. Allen outshot Wichita 17-8 in the second period.

After nearly a scoreless first half of the third period, Jarret Lukin broke the tie, with what turned out to be the game winner, on a quick shot from the just outside the left face-off circle, his sixth of the year and thirteenth point. Trevor Hendrikx put the cap on the game with blast from the high-slot, netting his third goal of the season and 100th career point. "It was a big win in the battle for first place, said Americans forward Jason Deitsch. "We started off slow, but battled back and worked hard for the two points." The victory gives Allen a three point lead over the second place Thunder. The Americans are back on the road tomorrow night in Tulsa against the Oilers at 7:35 PM.
