Dayton Gems News Release
Dayton, OH - The Dayton Gems open up the weekend with their second trek inside the brand new Ford Center in downtown Evansville, Indiana to battle the first place IceMen at 8pm eastern.
For the Gems (8-6-4), heading into their three game weekend tied with Missouri for third in the Tuner Conference standings, the Gems sit just three points behind the IceMen, and carry their 5-3-2 road record into just the forth meeting this season with Evansville. Dayton remains winless against the IceMen this season (0-2-1), after being swept in three games back in November.
Game Day In Evansville
Evansville hosts the Gems for just their sixth home game of the season on their newly opened ice, and have been victorious in all but one of their prior five games this season in front of the hometown crowd.
The IceMen enter tonight's matchup in first place in the Turner Conference, three points in front of the Gems and just a single point above the second place Komets.
Dayton's last meeting with the IceMen came on November 13, and was a 5-2 loss to Evansville in Dayton's first trip to the Ford Center. That win sealed a weekend sweep against the Gems for the IceMen in Dayton's first three-in-three weekend series of the season.
Gems Welcome Zulyniak
The Dayton Gems professional hockey team, a proud member of the Central Hockey League, announced that they have acquired defenseman Andy Zulyniak in exchange for financial considerations from the Missouri Mavericks.
Zulyniak, a 26 year old native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, joins the Gems after appearing in fifteen games with the Missouri Mavericks this season, notching three points from the blueline.
A four year letter winner at Lakehead University, Zulyniak played 12 professional games for the Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL at the end of his freshman season before returning for four more seasons at the Canadian college located in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Zulyniak will be in a Gems sweater when the Gems travel to the Ford Center on Friday to battle the first place Evansville IceMen at 8:15pm.
