Allen Americans News Release
Tulsa, OK - The Allen Americans made the trek north to take on the Tulsa Oilers for the final meeting of the season between the two clubs on Tuesday night. Allen came into the game with an 11-4-0-1 record against the Oilers this season and were looking to vault over the Idaho Steelheads for the top spot overall in the Western Conference, who the Americans trailed by one point.
Allen got on the board first in the opening frame when Chad Costello fired his 38th goal of the season past Brandon Anderson unassisted at the 11:54 mark. At the first intermission the Americans held the edge in shots by a count of 10-7.
The second period was a busy one for Allen as they tallied three goals while surrendering one to take a 4-1 lead into the second intermission. Jon Booras tied the game for Tulsa on the power play with assists from Dave Pszenyczny and Scott Macaulay at 6:09 but that would be it for Tulsa as the rest of the action was all from Allen. First it was Vincent Arseneau at 10:26 with Spencer Asuchak and Tanner Eberle contributing the assists then Jamie Schaafsma lit the lamp on the power play off passes by Chad Costello and Aaron Gens at 12:41 . Capping off the scoring for the period was a late goal by Chad Costello, assisted by Garrett Clarke at 19:54 . The Americans again led in shots for the period at 13-11 with a two period total of 23-18.
The Americans continued to build their lead in the 3rd period when Patrik Valcak banked one off the pads of Brandon Anderson from behind the net, assists were credited to Greger Hanson and Trevor Ludwig at the 7:58 mark. Allen again held the shot advantage through the third period by a 6-4 count and a three period total of 29-22. Allen improves to 44-14-6-3 with the victory which marked the professional debut of goaltender Joel Rumpel, earning his first professional win by turning aside 21 shots.
The three stars for the game were 1) Chad Costello, 2) Spencer Asuchak and 3) Jamie Schaafsma.
