Tulsa Oilers News Release

TULSA, OK - The Tulsa Oilers of the ECHL announced on Tuesday the signing of rookie defenseman Kevin Gibson. The latest addition to the Tulsa roster from the collegiate ranks, Gibson will make his pro debut tonight when the Oilers face off against the Allen Americans at 7:05 p.m. at the BOK Center.

Gibson, 6-foot-0, 180-pounds, just completed a four-year college career at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and helped guide the Pointers to the 2014-15 Division III National Championship game. As a senior, the Gross Pointe, Michigan native was the highest scoring defenseman in the country with 32 points (8 goals, 24 assists) and was named a 2015 All-American by the American Hockey Coaches Association. Gibson, 25, was named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year and was also selected as a finalist for the Sid Watson Award which is given to the Division III national player of the year.

"Kevin put up some incredibly impressive numbers throughout his time in college and most importantly, he was a leader and a winner," stated Oilers Head Coach, Bruce Ramsay. "I know there were many teams interested in signing Kevin so we feel very fortunate to have him here in Tulsa. I think he can come in right away and contribute to our team in a very positive way."

Before his successful stint at Stevens Point, Gibson played three seasons of junior hockey in the NAHL and USHL. In the 2010-11 campaign, Gibson registered 18 points in 27 games for the Michigan Warriors and played a key role in the team's run to the NAHL Finals.

The Oilers' final home stand of the regular season begins tonight at 7:05 p.m. in the season series finale against the Allen Americans. Tulsa concludes the home portion of its schedule on Friday and Saturday at 7:35 p.m. against the Missouri Mavericks.
