WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, are excited to announce that forward Sahir Gill has been named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for the week of March 23-29.

Gill, 22, had spent the majority of the last three months with the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs, before returning to Wheeling at the start of the week. Sahir jumped back into the Nailers' lineup on Wednesday, and although the team was not victorious against the Toledo Walleye, he immediately found his way onto the scoresheet, picking up a goal and an assist. On Friday night, Wheeling came from behind to defeat the Fort Wayne Komets, 2-1, with Gill assisting on the tying goal and scoring the winner. Saturday night's 5-2 triumph over the Reading Royals featured one assist for the second year forward, but Sunday was when Sahir shined the brightest, as he netted the team's fourth hat trick of the season as part of a four-point game in a pivotal 4-3 victory over the Cincinnati Cyclones. Gill finished the week with five goals, four assists, and nine points.

The Terrace, BC native broke into professional hockey last season with the Nailers, leading the team in scoring with 41 assists and 54 points in 67 games. Thus far this season, Gill has made three stops, racking up nine goals and 23 points in 19 games with Wheeling, two goals and four points in 25 games with Hamilton, and one goal and three points with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Prior to turning pro, Sahir attended Boston University for three years, where he accumulated 28 goals, 50 assists, and 78 points in 117 games.

On behalf of Gill, a case of pucks will be donated to the Wheeling Amateur Hockey Association (WAHA) by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 31,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.

Gill becomes the second Nailer to win Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week in 2014-15, joining Riley Brace, who took home the honors during the first week of the season.

Sahir Gill and the Nailers will be on the road Wednesday night for a 7:05 game against the Elmira Jackals, before returning home on Friday night for a 7:35 tilt against the Evansville IceMen.

The Nailers have two home games remaining in the 2014-15 regular season, with a 7:35 tilt against the Evansville IceMen on April 3rd and a 7:35 battle against the Elmira Jackals on April 10th . Both nights will be Flat Screen Fridays, Frosty Fridays, and Player Poster Giveaways, while the regular season home finale will be Fan Appreciation Night.
