Allen Americans News Release
Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans behind 29 saves by Riley Gill shutout the Idaho Steelheads on Wednesday night by a 4-0 score.
Featuring their brand new gray alternate jersey, the Americans came out with a purpose. Facing a struggling Steelheads squad (7-12-4), Allen put two on the board, first from Johnathan Parker, and a Power Play goal on a long one time slapshot from Tristan King. Parker's 7th on the year and King's 4th were the only tallies in the first period. With Joel Rumpel dinged up, Riley Gill got the start in net and was perfect on all 9 Idaho shots faced in the first. Chad Costello continued a nice offensive hot streak coming off of his 5 point effort last Saturday as he had a pair of secondary assists on both goals.
The second period did not see much action, which was fine with Allen as they sat on a 2-0 lead. Fans got some good entertainment as Vincent Arseneau, who was back in his #16 jersey, dropped the mitts with Corbin Baldwin for a heavyweight bout. Both teams were tied even with 17 shots, the difference being Idaho wasn't able to crack Gill, who remained perfect through two periods.
Allen added a little insurance in the final period by a goal from Vincent Arseneau and another late Power Play goal to ice the cake from King, his second on the night. Gill remained perfect throughout the rest of the game with 29 total saves, earning his second shutout on the season.
The secondary scoring from players like Arseneau and King were music to Steve Martinson's ears, as the head coach had plenty of praise for them in the postgame press conference.
Join the Allen Americans for "Ugly Sweater Day" as they host the Idaho Steelheads on Sunday afternoon, the 13th, at 4:05 pm. 2015-2016 Schedule
