Idaho Steelheads News Release

Allen, TX - Riley Gill made 29 saves in goal to earn his second shutout of the season, as the Allen Americans (15-8-0)quieted the Idaho Steelheads (7-13-4) in the first ever meeting between the two teams, 4-0 at Allen Events Center.

Jonathan Parker opened the scoring just 5:32 into the first period when he collected a rebound off the end boards behind Maxime Lagace and banked a shot off the Steelheads' goaltender and into the net for his seventh goal of the season. At 13:00 of the period, Tristan King began his three-point night with a power play one-timer from the top of the left circle that beat Lagace to the blocker side. Forward Chad Costello and defenseman Eric Roy picked up assists on both goals.

The teams went scoreless until 11:29 of the third period when the Steelheads were pushing to get on the board, incorporating their defense in the rush. That led to an odd-man opportunity for the Americans, as King drove down the right wing boards and floated a pass to the back post for Vincent Arseneau to tap in his fourth of the season. In the final minute of play, Arseneau returned the favor and sailed a 2-on-1 set-up to King to tap in his second of the game and fifth of the season to cap off a 4-0 win for Allen.

With three assists, Roy now leads all ECHL rookie defenseman with 17 points. Costello leads the ECHL with 23 assists and 32 points.

The Steelheads outshot an opponent for the seventh time in eight games, launching 29 pucks at Gill. They were unable to capitalize on their power play chances, going 0-for-5 in the game.

The Steelheads travel to Oklahoma to face the Tulsa Oilers Thursday night . It will be the Steelheads second game of this four-in-five nights stretch, and their first ever meeting with the Oilers. Idaho is tied in points with the Oilers with 18, with Tulsa holding five games in hand. Puck-drop is at 6:05pm MT at BOK Center, with the game available on 1350KTIK and ECHLTV.

Play of the Game:

The Steelheads needed a spark and almost got it, trailing by two in the third period when Cole Ully burst through the neutral zone on a breakaway. Gill reached out with the right pad and kicked away the Ully attempt, the puck sliding to the corner. It was Idaho's best chance of the game but it wouldn't close the gap, as the American's extended their lead to three shortly thereafter. Allen moved to 13-0-0 when leading after two periods.
